IFAD's engagement in pro-poor value chain development

IFAD's engagement in pro-poor value chain development

This corporate-level evaluation assesses IFAD's performance in supporting the development of pro-poor value chain over 10 years. The report identifies opportunities for improving the outreach to poor and very poor producers that can be considered when designing projects, such as the factors that facilitate their inclusion, the pro-poor requirements for agribusiness and suitable rural finance instruments; it includes an analysis of the sustainability dimensions of the value chains projects supported and how to enhance them.

As traditional food systems are being replaced by organised value chains, the attention to value chain development becomes increasingly important in IFAD's portfolio.
