Pernille Nagel Sørensen (PNS) is a senior consultant with over 25 years of specialization in food and nutrition security and livelihoods systems (agricultural and pastoralist areas) in various contexts (natural disaster, fragile and conflict-affected states; protracted crisis, post-conflict/post-crisis); food security/agricultural policies, smallholder agriculture; sustainable/low-cost agriculture; the right to food; food security and nutrition governance; nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions (e.g. agriculture); Nexus/linking of relief, rehabilitation and development (LRRD); resilience; social protection/social transfer; food security information systems; natural resource management, food trade/markets; gender; and HIV/AIDS.

PNS has extensive experience in evaluation and monitoring, impact and contribution evaluation/research, Results-Based Monitoring and Evaluation (RBM&E), including preparation of RBM&E Manual; and EU Result-Oriented-Monitoring (ROM). In addition, PNS has experience in appraisal, proposal development, strategy development; Rights Based Approach, and training/capacity development (e.g. with regard to Results-Based Monitoring and Evaluation, RBM&E).

PNS has broad team-leader/coordinator experience, e.g. in relation to the evaluation of Norwegian global support to agriculture, evaluation of the Dutch food security programme in Ethiopia, EC/FAO programmes, WFP programmes, ROM missions, NGO project evaluations, and a longitudinal impact study.

PNS has moreover long-time experience in conducting, planning and coordinating impact studies/assessments, planning and design of research tools as well as planning and coordinating research collaboration with Southern institutions/researchers/consultants. A large number of publications (research reports, articles, chapters in books, two books) have been prepared in addition to the consultancies.

Main clients: EU DEVCO, ECHO, FAO, WFP, Norad, Danida, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands, GIZ, and NGOs (e.g. DanChurchAid and Development Fund, Norway).

PNS has working experience from the following countries: Ethiopia, Eritrea, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Sudan, South Sudan, South Africa, Mozambique, Swaziland, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Cote D’Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Vietnam, the Philippines, Nepal, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and West Bank/Gaza Strip.
