Recently I attended the 4th Conference on Evaluating Environment and Development in Washington, D.C. and one message stood out in particular to me - if we do not evaluate an intervention's effects on natural systems (positive or negative) and not only human systems, our evaluative conclusions will be incomplete and invalid.
