Aanchal Kapur is a women’s rights specialist and gender trainer. She has been working as a professional with a gender lens in the field of social development and human rights, for the past 28 years. Aanchal’s core expertise lies in capacity building and facilitation, research and process documentation, monitoring and evaluation, communication and photography, programme planning and organisation development, volunteering for social change, building community livelihoods and strategising for corporate social responsibility (CSR). She curates and organises documentary film screenings on a host of human rights issues for diverse audiences, across intersectionalities. Aanchal works on the themes of gender and development, sexual harassment at the workplace, violence against women, labour, health, social justice, peace, environment and livelihoods.
Aanchal founded a not-for-profit organisation called ‘KRITI: a development praxis and communication team’, in 1999, which offers a creative and critical space for thinking and
action on important rights issues. Among the organisation’s initiatives that Aanchal founded are the Kriti Film Club, Our Diary, Gestures (a livelihoods support initiative), Rightscape for
students. Kriti team offers students and professionals opportunities for volunteering and making their contributions to the development, environment and human rights space.
Aanchal has worked across grassroots India, South Asia and internationally with development workers, activists and community members (especially women); students,
NGO management; trade union members; government functionaries; staff of bilateral and UN agencies, etc. Among the organisations she has closely worked with include, PRIA,
ActionAid, DFID, Oxfam, ILO, PFI, SCF, UN Women, UNFPA, ICRW, Breakthrough, Sama, Jagori, WISCOMP and others.
She has written extensively for magazines, journals and organisations in her career, both, as a published author and as a ghost writer or consultant. Aanchal has a MSc. in Development Studies (Gender, Social Policy and Planning), from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a Masters in Political Science from Jawaharlal Nehru University.
